Jamaal Bowman’s journey from educator to elected official is a story of resilience, passion, and dedication to serving his community. After graduating from high school, Bowman went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in sports management and a Master’s degree in guidance and counseling. He then worked as a teacher and later as a principal in the Bronx, where he dedicated himself to creating a nurturing and empowering environment for his students.
As an educator, Bowman witnessed the impact of poverty, racism, and lack of resources on the lives of his students and their families. This experience inspired him to become more involved in advocacy and activism, leading him to co-found the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action, a public middle school dedicated to providing a high-quality education to underserved communities.
In 2020, Bowman decided to take his passion for social justice and education to the next level by running for Congress in New York’s 16th District.
