From Bison to Trailblazers: Alumni Making a Difference from Howard University

Howard University has a long and storied history of producing exceptional alumni who go on to make a significant impact in their communities and fields of expertise. From civil rights activists to groundbreaking scientists, Howard University has been a breeding ground for leaders and trailblazers.

One such group of trailblazing alumni are the “Bison to Trailblazers,” a group of graduates who are making a difference in various industries and sectors. These individuals have taken the lessons and values learned at Howard University and applied them to create positive change in the world.

One example of a Bison to Trailblazer is Ta-Nehisi Coates, an award-winning journalist and author known for his powerful writing on race and social justice. Coates graduated from Howard University in 1997 with a degree in history and went on to become a national correspondent for The Atlantic. His works, such as “Between the World and Me” and “The Beautiful Struggle,” have sparked important conversations about race in America and have earned him numerous accolades, including the National Book Award and the MacArthur Fellowship.

Another notable Bison to Trailblazer is Chadwick Boseman, the late actor known for his iconic role as Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Boseman graduated from Howard University in 2000 with a degree in Fine Arts and went on to star in a number of critically acclaimed films, including “42” and “Get On Up.” Boseman’s portrayal of T’Challa in “Black Panther” was groundbreaking and celebrated for its representation of Black excellence in film.

In addition to Coates and Boseman, Howard University has produced a myriad of other trailblazing alumni who are making a difference in their respective fields. From government officials like Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of Education John King Jr., to entrepreneurs like Cathy Hughes, the founder of Radio One, these Bison to Trailblazers continue to pave the way for future generations of Howard University graduates.

The legacy of Howard University is one of excellence, leadership, and social responsibility. The Bison to Trailblazers are a testament to the values instilled at Howard University and serve as inspiration for current students and aspiring leaders. As the university continues to produce exceptional graduates, the impact of its alumni will only continue to grow, leaving a lasting legacy of positive change and progress in their wake.
