He has starred in iconic films such as “Malcolm X,” “Training Day,” and “Fences,” showcasing his immense talent and versatility as an actor. Washington has not only made a name for himself as one of the greatest actors of his generation but has also used his platform to advocate for social justice and equality in Hollywood.
Another trailblazer in the industry is filmmaker Ava DuVernay. As a director, producer, and writer, DuVernay has broken barriers for Black women in Hollywood. She is the first Black woman to win the Best Director award at the Sundance Film Festival and the first Black woman to direct a film nominated for the Best Picture Oscar (“Selma”). Actress Viola Davis is another Black celebrity who has made a significant impact in Hollywood. Davis is the first Black actress to win the Triple Crown of Acting – an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Tony Award.
