The Black middle class, while often perceived as a symbol of progress and success in American society, has a complex and often difficult history. Black people have had to navigate and overcome countless obstacles, including systemic racism and discrimination, in order to attain middle class status. Despite their achievements, Black people in the middle class still face many challenges and barriers, including persistent income and wealth disparities compared to their white counterparts.
We will present the history and the contemporary experiences of Black people in the middle class, highlighting the struggles and triumphs of this group. It examines the ways in which Black people have had to navigate and negotiate their identities and place in society, as well as the unique challenges they have faced in achieving and maintaining financial stability and security.
